THE FRINGE SURVIVAL SERIES.

To help artists prep for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, we're running a monthly support series, keeping you on track with what you need to be thinking about and when. We'll post a new article every month in the lead up, and you can sign up for early access and some JUICY extras.

WHO WE ARE.

We’re a small Edinburgh-based team who genuinely adore stand-up comedy.

We started Brass Tacks Comedy to celebrate and champion stand-up comedy, and to help comics focus on their craft, not stressing over spreadsheets.

We know how hard the industry is, and we want more talented comics from any and all backgrounds to survive it.

DIRECTING.

We direct shows either long-term, or as a one-off ‘fresh eyes’ session.

We help you to find structure, sharpen the big laughs, and keep the show’s heart intact. You’ll come away with a clear running order, a confident show spine, and a plan for your previews.

£125 per session
As many or few sessions as you require, pending availability
All you need is a recording of a recent work in progress
Can be done in person (Edinburgh/Glasgow) or virtually
The chat is approx 2-hours
Post session, you receive all the detailed notes discussed

After working on my show for months, I found it hard to step back and look at it objectively.
Katie was able to review my whole show, and offer tweaks and suggestions to help not only the overall theme and flow, but also making bits punchier and funnier.

Not only did she watch videos of my WIPs, she sat with me to find the clear story of the show and also added punch-lines. Katie created a great environment to brainstorm ideas and jokes. My show was named by Rolling Stone as one of the 12 stand-out shows of the Edinburgh Fringe 2024, this would not have happened without Katie's direction.

Katie not only did a detailed, joke-by-joke breakdown of the show, she was extremely supportive and collaborative making me so much more confident in my show. I felt as though Katie really worked to understand the show from multiple angles and brought a fresh perspective to what did and didn't work. She came equipped with solutions and checked in with me throughout the process, it was so helpful to have her on board! Also, it goes without saying, Katie is extremely funny making the whole experience a delight.
